The Script say The X Factor is ruining the music industry

Rock band The Script reckon X Factor is running the music industry and says The X Factor is breeding artists like this year's winner Matt Cardle, who are doomed to failure.

Lead singer Danny O'Donoghue said: “How many years has it been on now and how many successful artist [have there been]? The diamonds are few and far between. It’s easy to go from singing karaoke to being on the stage and being famous. The hard work is what’s important.”

Guitarist Mark Sheehan like Danny has been member of the band joined since 1996, reckons Simon Cowell’s 'fast track' to fame fails to prepare artists properly, he said, “If you haven’t played smaller gigs and grown with those phases I don’t think you really understand what’s happening. I’m not sure those X Factor kids understand what’s going on. You can’t understand. So I actually feel sorry for them in a way.”

Reckons made the concert acts that will be fragile in the face of failure, he said, “I think the first taste of a little bit of a dip is going to be frightening for these people. It’s a lot for your mind to adjust to at that level, to be suddenly taken from obscurity and then you’re on every page of every magazine.”

Danny said, “When you work for a long time to get there, the rewards and the just deserves are there. For every show we do our fans know we’ve taken so long as a band to try and get there. We’ve been working really hard, gig after gig, night after night.”
